The biggest letters we print

A 10×10 grid is only a hundred squares on a full page, which is what lets each letter print at over three-quarters of an inch. For comparison, a typical newspaper word search letter is around an eighth of an inch. This is the page to print if someone has given up on word searches because they could not see them.

Words run across and down only. That pairing matters more than it sounds — large letters solve the reading problem, and removing diagonals and backwards words solves the scanning problem, which for many low-vision solvers is the one that actually ends the puzzle.

If this is still hard to read

Print at 100% scale rather than "fit to page", which shrinks the grid a few percent for no reason. Print single-sided so nothing shows through from the back, and use plain white paper rather than anything tinted or recycled-grey — contrast does as much work as size.

A highlighter beats a pen for marking found words, because it leaves the letters visible underneath.

Which size should you print?

Every puzzle here prints on one US Letter sheet — what changes is how many letters share it. Fewer letters means each one prints larger.

Frequently asked questions

How do I print these extra large word searches?

Click "Download PDF" under either puzzle for a print-ready US Letter file (the answer key is included as page two), or click "Print" to send it straight to your printer. Both print well on A4 too. Print at 100% scale — avoid "fit to page", which can shrink the grid.

How large is the print in these puzzles?

Each grid is 10 × 10 letters on a full page, so letters print roughly half an inch tall — far larger than a newspaper puzzle. Everything uses the Atkinson Hyperlegible typeface, designed by the Braille Institute for low-vision readers.

How hard are these puzzles?

Words run across and down only — nothing backwards, nothing diagonal. There are 20 words to find across 2 puzzles, and every answer key is free with the PDFs.

Can I photocopy these puzzles for a group?

Yes — print and photocopy them freely for your family, classroom, library, activity group or care home. That is exactly what they are for.
