Two things, and neither is the words being childish. Words run across and down only, so there is nothing hidden diagonally or backwards, and the grids are a roomy 12×12 rather than the 18×18 used for the hard puzzles. The vocabulary is everyday household words — familiar rather than simple.
Plenty of people solve these by preference rather than necessity. An easy word search is a pleasant twenty minutes; a hard one is a task. Both are legitimate things to want from a puzzle.
