The gentlest Christmas puzzles on the site

These are built to be finished. The first four are 10×10 grids with 8 to 10 words each, the same size as our extra large print page, so every letter prints in about 33-point type — roughly twice the size of a large-print book. The last two step up to 12×12 with 12 words. Every word runs across or down: nothing diagonal, nothing backwards.

The words are short and familiar on purpose — TREE, BELL, SNOW, HAM, PIE, SANTA — and none is longer than eight letters. That is not about the solver being childlike; it is about removing the parts of a word search that make it hard to see and hard to scan, and keeping the part that is a pleasure.

For memory care and low vision

In a memory care unit or on a one-to-one visit, start by reading the word list aloud together and finding the first word as a pair. Christmas vocabulary is about as deeply held as words get, which is why these grids tend to work even on days when other activities do not. A highlighter is kinder than a pen: it marks the word and leaves the letters readable.

Print at 100% scale, single-sided, on plain white paper. For a mixed room, hand these out alongside the main Christmas word search so that everyone has a sheet, and nobody is given the one that is obviously the easy one — they all look like Christmas puzzles.

Planning puzzles for a care home or senior center? The memory care activities page lays the whole year out as a printable monthly calendar, and activities for nursing home residents covers what works for a mixed group.

Which size should you print?

Every puzzle on this page fills one US Letter sheet. What changes is how many letters share it — fewer letters means each one prints larger. The gentler grid is the one to reach for if reading the page is the hard part; the tougher grid is for solvers who want a long hunt and find the standard size too quick.

Want a whole page at one size instead? The extra large print puzzles use 10×10 grids with our biggest letters, the jumbo and easy pages use 12×12, and the giant and hard pages pack 22–24 words into an 18×18 grid.

Frequently asked questions

How do I print these easy christmas word searches?

Click "Download PDF" under any puzzle for a print-ready US Letter file (the answer key is included as page two), or click "Print" to send it straight to your printer. Both print well on A4 too. Print at 100% scale — avoid "fit to page", which can shrink the grid.

How large is the print in these puzzles?

Each 10 × 10 grid fills a full US Letter page, so the letters print in about 33-point type, nearly a third of an inch tall. That is bigger than the 16- to 18-point type used in large-print books. This page also has a 12×12 grid at about 27-point. Everything uses the Atkinson Hyperlegible typeface, designed by the Braille Institute for low-vision readers.

How hard are these puzzles?

Words run across and down only — nothing backwards, nothing diagonal. There are 58 words to find across 6 puzzles, and every answer key is free with the PDFs.

Can I photocopy these puzzles for a group?

Yes — print and photocopy them freely for your family, classroom, library, activity group or care home. That is exactly what they are for.

What makes these Christmas word searches easy?

Small grids and short words. Four of the six are 10×10 grids with 8 to 10 words, the other two are 12×12 with 12, no word is longer than eight letters, and every word runs left to right or top to bottom only. There are 58 words across the six puzzles.

Are these suitable for someone with dementia or poor eyesight?

They are the Christmas puzzles we would print first for either. The 10×10 grids print at about 33-point type and the 12×12 at about 27-point, in Atkinson Hyperlegible, the typeface the Braille Institute designed for low-vision readers. Read the words aloud together and leave the sheet behind if it is not finished.

Is there a harder version for other people at the table?

Yes. The main Christmas word search has standard 15×15 grids, and the hard Christmas word search uses 18×18 grids with 22 long words hidden in all eight directions. All of them are in large print.
